Professional mentoring at MY Project USA

Community Development:

We're Excited to Announce MY Professional Mentoring Initiative

Family,

MY Project USA has always strived relentlessly to provide the best development opportunities to their community. Maintaining that momentum, MY Project USA is proud to provide Professional Mentoring opportunities to underserved highschool students and adults.

This is an extension and supplement to the Mentoring program provided by the “Under My Wing” initiative. We are super excited about this program’s prospect.

The focus of this initiative is to ensure that underserved high school students and adults are prepared for post-secondary education, trade schools, or entry-level professional success.

Our aim is to develop professional skills such as communication skills, career development soft-skills, goal setting, self-efficacy for personal and professional development; and academic development skills such as college application process and knowledge about career fields.

This program aims to develop healthy decision-making in young people by providing them with professional adult mentors who can listen, guide, and provide meaningful opportunities.

If you are a youth interested in participating in this program as a Mentee then please complete Mentee Application. If you are a college student and would like to help a high school student going to college, please complete College Mentor Application. If you are interested in being a Professional Mentor then please complete Professional Mentor Application. We will reach out to you individually as we start screening the applicants.

Looking forward to starting this empowering journey together with YOU!

Zeenath Sheikh

Aden Mohamed's fundraiser to support Hilltop Youth Soccer League

Youth Development:

Hilltop Tigers Soccer League Kicks Off June 26

About 500 Kids Expected to Join. 40 New Players Join The Club

The Columbus Crew Provided Goals & Incidentals For The League

We are just 10 days away from our 2nd Hilltop Youth Soccer league. This league gives hundreds of children from the hilltop and surrounding areas a safe space to play, learn, grow and express themselves. We are expecting about 500 kids to participate in our summer session.

There are so many people from this community, young and old, who are passionate about the game of soccer. So, this year we hope to solidify our efforts of community development by offering recreational fun soccer activities for the youth, and refereeing/coaching training and certification opportunities for adults.

Last year, the Motherland Barbershop last year we were able to get two full-sized goals for one of our fields. Last year Martin Ramirez came through for us by allowing us to use goals that belong to his soccer club. This year, Thanks to a recent generous donation of the Columbus Crew, we now have new goals and all needed incidentals for the league. We are looking forward to working with them in developing our program further.

Since the number of regular players in the club is about 150 now, we are in desperate need of hiring more coaches at this point. We also have 8 girls who want to play soccer. We are looking for a girls soccer coach.

Our budget for the program for up to 100 kids was $136,000 this year. With an addition of 50 more players, we will need another $70,000 to hire coaches and provide, food, transportation and registration fees for these players.

Thanks to the leadership of Councilmember Elizabeth Brown, we have received a grant of $75,000 from the Columbus City Council. We need community's help to mend this fiscal gap. Your generosity will help up brighten more futures. Please donate now to support our Hilltop Soccer Club.

Sincerely,

Aden Mohamed

Food Insecurity:

MY Family Pantry Served 755 Individuals From 199 Families in 15 days

Free Food Market Scheduled To Open Next Month

Our June 5th pantry was the first usage of two newly acquired Toyota pallet jacks. With this new equipment, our volunteers are now able to transport pallets of goods and produce across our facility both quicker and safer.

We serve an average of over 350 individuals per week. Our donor contributions help us to continually improve our operations and outreach, and we at MY Family Pantry are very thankful.

MY Family Pantry is an initiative of MY Project USA that is 100% run and led by students. We distribute fresh produce and groceries to hundreds of individuals in our community every week. Every volunteer plays a crucial role in making sure our operations run smoothly each week. If you would like to join us in fighting food insecurity in Columbus, please click here to volunteer.

We would like to thank everyone who comes out to serve the community on Saturdays and also our wonderful donors who make our many initiatives possible.

If you would like to become one of our donors and help us continue feeding the community please donate here.

Sincerely,

Kevin Lewis
