Letter from the Founder & Executive Director:

My Mother Was My Rock! My Role Model & My Inspiration!

She Would Do Everything in Her Power to Protect & Empower These Children! MY Project USA is Her Legacy!

I Send Her Gifts By Donating to MY Project USA!

Dear Family,

It's been two years. Two long years without holding my mother's warm hands, without kissing her, without putting my head on her chest - without feeling her hands on my face, on my head - Two long years without seeing her beautiful smile.

In this Night of Power, as my tears roll down my cheeks, I pray that Allah Al-mighty forgive all of her sins and grant my mother with the highest ranks in Heaven. May He accept all my hard work on her behalf. May He accept all my monitorial donations on her behalf and make them a source of breeze for her in Jannah (Heaven).

My mother was my rock! My role model & my inspiration! She was one of the most hard working, passionate, fearless and strong women of her time and our time. She is the reason behind my successes as she instilled honesty, hard work and caring for others in me. She raised me for humanity beyond all nationalities and faith practices. She would fight against injustice and won't be shy in sharing her opinion whenever it deemed necessary.

My mother was a widow for 28 years. She was a breast cancer survivor who cooked food for others for 11 years to provide for her young sons until they were established. In the meantime she continued supporting Islamic school in Raleigh, NC through her catering on Fridays. She would work very hard to save money to visit Pakistan. Regardless of her low income she constantly contributed to cause important to her.

She became my main supporter and a model fundraiser to raise money for Project Sakinah, a national initiative that I co-founded to address domestic violence within the Muslim American community back in 2009. She would call all over America and ask her family and friends to donate.

When I started MY Project USA in 2014, she went above and beyond to raise awareness and collect money in the early days when nobody was there to help. She supported the first MY Eid Toys drive. She contributed to first soccer jerseys for Hilltop Tigers. She also pitched in for the first ISNA convention booth. Every single time, I was short of money, my poor mother with the biggest heart in the world would contribute and call all gf her cousins to give money. She was indeed the biggest cheerleader I every got after my father.

Today as we aim to build Issa Jeylani Memorial Recreation Center, as we aim to feed hundreds of children at MY Community Cafe, as we continue and grow Hilltop Tigers, as we feed more than 600 families weekly through MY Family Pantry, as we uplift so many ethnic communities, I have no doubt in my mind that my mother would give every penny that she could to support these causes. I can see her cooking chicken biryani for Hilltop Tigers. I can see her serving food to my volunteers. I can see her calling her family to collect their zakat for MY Project USA. Unfortunately, she is not around to support

May Allah taala bless my mother's soul with the best in the Heaven. She was one of her kind and I so dearly miss her every single day. Her absence remind me that she can't do any of the above. She depends on me. I am her legacy and I can do all of the above on he behalf and I do it.  And I do it.

I donate my money, time and energy for her sake. I pray to God to accept all my good deeds and send the rewards to my amazing mother. I do this for her, and because of her.

On this blessed night, I am donating on behalf of my mother and my father. May God wrap both of them with His mercy. Ameen.

I invite you to join me in protecting and empowering our youth by donating on behalf of your parents and loved ones. Make My Project USA a part of your family legacy. Make these children continued charity for yourself and your parents. This is the most convenient way to earn the highest rewards in Heaven.

Don't miss out!

Do it now.! Do it for your mother! Do it for your father. Do it for your loved ones!

May God accept it from all of us. Ameen.

In solidarity with Youth & Families,

Zerqa Abid,

MY Project USA is Zakat-Eligible! Help Your Neighbors

MY Project USA is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. We serve local refugees, orphans, slaves, victims of abuse and other needy and poor neighbors in the Columbus and Dayton areas in Ohio. We are Zakat-eligible because it falls into six of the eight categories of Zakat as commanded by Allah SWT in the following verse of Quran.

“Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect (zakah) and for bringing hearts together (for Islam) and for freeing captives (or slaves) and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the (stranded) traveler – and obligation (imposed) by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.” (Quran 9:60)

• MY Project USA Fits 6 of 8 Criteria of Zakat •

  • Categories No. 1 & 2: “for poor and for the needy” – This applies because we are helping poor local and refugee Muslim families.
  • Category No. 4: “bringing hearts together” – This applies because we serve all needy people regardless of their faith, ethnicity or race. We also work with individuals that are attracted to Island and Muslims and prefer working with us to learn more.
  • Category No. 5: “freeing captives” – This applies because we are addressing human trafficking, the modern-day slavery, prevention and intervention. Our focus is to free sex slaves from bondage and help them reestablish a life of their own.
  • Category No. 6: “paying the debt” – This applies because we take care of families, single moms and family violence victims dealing with debts and financial instability.
  • Category No. 7: “the cause of Allah” – This applies because we are protecting and empowering Muslim youth and families in America. Through our work, we are addressing drugs, gangs, violence, suicides, radicalization, homelessness and hunger through capacity-building of the individuals and the community. Through the documentation and publicity of our work, we week to address Islamophobia as well. Our goal is to preserve Islam and Muslim communities in America at its best.
