Support Our Free Food Market & Hilltop Youth Empowerment Center

Dear Community,

MY Project USA is opening the  Hilltop Youth Empowerment Center and a Free Food Market in the Hilltop Area where they are needed the most. Our new location is 3275 Sullivant Ave. Columbus.

This neighborhood is being recognized as a food desert with no good, affordable grocery stores nearby. Our food pantry has been the main source of free fresh produce and dry staples for thousands of families over the last four years.

Just in 2020. we served 37,000 clients through our pantry. This year with the COVID-19 Pandemic, the need had grown more. Therefore, we moved our weekly pantry to a new bigger location and now we are turning it into an everyday free food market with the partnership of the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Hilltop Youth Empowerment Center will be home to the following initiatives:
  • Free Food Market
  • Pay Forward Sandwich Shop/Soup Kitchen
  • Learning Extension Center for the Columbus City Schools & others
  • Job Training Center for youths & adults
  • Community Garden
  • Free Health Screenings
  • and many more, inshaAllah
The total cost of the project is $250,000 (not including the property). With the help of an SBA loan and the Resilience Act grant from the City of Columbus and private donations, we have been able to buy all necessary equipment and appliances for the food market. We have secured a general contractor to make the necessary changes in the building. We have also secured a generous donation of furniture for the youth center and soup kitchen.

We are still in need of  $150,000 immediately to cover the cost of HVAC, Concrete, and other important construction-related costs.

This is an investment in our community. This center will be saving and changing the lives of thousands of families in years to come. We have put a sponsorship package for businesses, private donors, and families as well. Please contact me at info@myprojectusa.org if you have any questions or if you are interested in sponsorship or joining our fundraising committee for this center.

You can mail a check or donate online on our website, Facebook, Venmo or Zelle Direct Deposit. Please click below and send your gift now.

MY Pathways & MY Tailored Image
New Career Development Programs For All
Training, Mentoring & Suiting For Success In Work Place

Through the past three months of rigorous planning and preparation for MY Tailored Image, our new program, has been able to host styling events for our women with professional hairstylists and make-up artists, plan social events and work closely with our soccer team at MY Project USA, and offer suiting services to our youth.

Our program focuses on building confidence and self-reliance by providing suiting and career readiness services. The purpose is to empower men and women to achieve economic independence through a professional network of support and professional tools to work and develop in life. This program includes open access to professional/ casual attire, proper grooming and self-care routine, professional etiquettes and manners, help in adding professionals to their network, building partnerships in the Columbus community to help deliver workshops, lectures, and events catering to career and personal development.

We hope to continue the beautiful program that we have started into the new year, and allow all of our youth the chance to become trained, adaptable professionals!

MY Project USA envisions low-income refugees and immigrant individuals being professionally stronger with equal job opportunities. We strive to reach out to job-seeking individuals and bring awareness about MY Pathways Program. By educating them about its benefits, we give our clients the opportunity to meet us in person or online to discuss their career interests, skills, needs, and goals.

In this program we help job-seeking individuals create their Resumes, Cover Letters, online Job Profiles on Job websites, prepare them for Job Interviews and help them suit up for the professional world with appropriate attire with MY Tailored Image. We also facilitate them to find suitable and respectful jobs.

We have also introduced ESL classes as a part of MY Pathways for those who face language barriers and to help them improve their language skills.

MY Pathways aims to expose participants to not only in-demand careers but careers that appreciate diversity and contribute to positive social change.

This year was a unique one for MY Family Pantry but Alhamdulillah we persevered and adapted to the drastic changes that occurred.

Due to the increase in the clients served each week during COVID, we have moved to a new location. We are now partnering with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank to turn the space into a free food market for eligible families.
We are extremely blessed to have been able to continue to serve the Hilltop community throughout this and in the previous years.

This year, the MY Family Pantry team was led by our Board Director, Jon Galasso. Ayat Ibrahim, Safia Mateen, Ahmed Hussain, Noor Al-Hashemi & Anera Zec led various departments. This phenomenal team went above and beyond in serving the community through this pandemic. We are truly blessed with these amazing leaders and other committed volunteers who put their own lives and comfort online to serve the community in need. May God reward them immensely for their service.
