Our Neighbors Won't Be Able To Make It Without You!

Your Donations Can Save Local Families From Hunger, Eviction, Drugs, Gangs & Violence

Dear Family,

It's Friday. There are important things that I want to share with you today. I wish they were all good news, but they are not. I need your help.

I am stressed, but hopeful. I have faith in God and in this Village of ours.

Yesterday was a long day. Bashir, Sharmarke, Mukumbira and I spent all day at the Ohio State House and testified in front of the House Finance Committee requesting $350,000 in two consecutive years to continue our youth programs including the Hilltop Tigers. In the meantime, my team at the office prepared two hundred Ramadan campaign envelopes for many of you, our donors. Last week our board members and I visited our larger donors and updated them with our progress and needs. Today, I am reaching out to you through this newsletter to make sure that you are aware of our situation.

In past years, seventy five percent of our expenses have been covered by various grants. That is looking unlikely to be the case for 2025. Two weeks ago, we received a notice from the Department of Justice to return the grant money that we received in December. It was mostly a reimbursement and we had already spent it, so we are okay for now - but it sets off a serious alarm for us that we cannot rely on any grant at this point.

With the new White House administration, along with many other things, the future of many nonprofits like ours is also up in the air. We have no other option other than to lean on you.

Our new grant cycle will begin in June. Due to the reduction of other grants and public donations, we currently have no money to run our programs now through June and are facing a gap of about $450,000 ($150K/month).

If we don’t get the community's support now, we will be leaning toward pausing all of our programs for 4 months and restarting when we have money. The problem with that idea is that we will lose all of our team members and it will be disaster to build new teams for so many different departments.

We don’t even want to think what will happen to the kids and the other 10,000 clients (duplicated) from 1000 families whom we serve monthly. To be honest, many of them will not be able to make through this inflation. We will lose many kids back to gangs and guns, God forbid.

This is an important matter that needs the urgent attention of community members. MY Project USA is a community organization entrusted to us by charity and tax-payers dollars. We don't take its management lightly. We have looked at the situation and we believe we can do it together. We need support in the  following or similar order:

  • Five donations of $20,000 X 5 = $100,000
  • Ten donations of $10,000 X 10 = $100,000
  • Twenty donations of $5000 X 20 = $100,000
  • Forty donation of $2500 X 40 = $100,000
  • Fifty donations of $1000 X 50 = $50,000

You can donate this amount in installments by setting recurring donations. That will also help a lot.

I don't know what level you are at, but I know for sure that whatever you will pitch in will be helping us to sustain an organization that is a lifeline to 10,000 people a month. The annual impact of your dollar will be about $7 million. I hope you will take this opportunity of making a tangible impact on children and families in your own backyard.

I wish you a blessed Friday. May each and every good deed of your be accepted on this day.

In solidarity with youth and families,

Zerqa Abid,

Founder, President & Executive Director

Donate your Zakat today and be a source of light and hope for those who need it most! Rest assured, we will use your zakat funds only for zakat eligible individuals and initiatives.

May Allah (SWT) accept your charity, grant you peace, and bless you abundantly this Ramadan. Ameen.

Zakat ul Fitr Goal: Groceries for 300 Families!

Help us provide Zakat ul Fitr groceries to 300 families this Ramadan! Zakat ul Fitr is a required charity before Eid prayers, estimated at $15 per person this year. Food will be distributed on March 28th. Our deadline to collect Zakatul Fitr is March 26 or reaching our goal of $9000.

This Eid, Let's Celebrate Our Youth with MY Project USA!

This year, MY Project USA is shifting focus from our usual toy drive to celebrating the incredible kids in our programs. These hardworking, motivated, and driven youth come from challenging circumstances, and we are so proud to mentor and guide them. In past years, they’ve helped organize toy drives for other children in their neighborhoods, and this Eid, we want to reward them for all their dedication and hard work.

Making Eid special is key to preserving their Islamic identity and fostering their love for their faith. To do this, we will be giving each child a gift at our Eid party at the end of the month.

Please help make this Eid unforgettable by purchasing a gift from our Eid Toys wishlist or donating toward the toy drive so we can purchase a gift on your behalf. Thank you for supporting and celebrating our youth!

Alhamdulillah! Over 1500 Meals Served in 12 Days – Let’s Keep Going!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and volunteers, MY Iftar Kitchen has now provided over 1500 meals in just the first 12 days of Ramadan! We are so humbled to serve our community members in need and are deeply grateful to all the amazing individuals who have joined us in this effort.

A special shoutout to the Sunrise Girl Scouts for coming out to help pack meals! Your efforts are truly appreciated. Parents, this is a wonderful opportunity to bring your children along and teach them the value of giving back and serving those in need, especially during this blessed month of Ramadan.

Our daily goal is to provide 100-125 meals, and we are excited to share that we’ve been consistently surpassing this target! But we still need your help to ensure we can continue feeding those in need through the remainder of Ramadan.

Please continue to sign up to cook, pack, or distribute meals. You can also donate to help us cater food through MY Community Cafe, ensuring we can keep meeting the growing demand.

Together, we can continue earning immense rewards by providing food to the less fortunate and supporting our community in this blessed month.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support!

Happy International Women's Day from Team MY Project USA!

10 years ago, our Founder, Zerqa Abid, a passionate woman dedicated to making a difference, started MY Project USA to save girls from being exploited and to empower them as leaders and change makers within their communities.

Today, we are proud to celebrate women as leaders and trailblazers, paving the way to a brighter future. From our dedicated admin team to our inspiring youth leaders, we are surrounded by strong women who are determined to create meaningful change. Here’s our very own Alina Hussain wishing everyone a Happy International Women’s Day on behalf of all of us at MY Project USA!

Support Our Neighbors at MY Project USA’s Warming Center

Every day, MY Project USA’s Warming Center provides shelter, warmth, and hope to those in need. Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to serve over 160 meals daily to individuals facing homelessness. But we need your help to continue making a difference.

How You Can Help:

  • Meal Donations: Help provide meals for our guests. Your generosity ensures they’re nourished and reminded they’re not forgotten.
  • Monetary Donations: Contribute to MY Community Cafe, which caters daily meals to our warming center guests.
  • Snack Bags: Purchase items from our Amazon Wishlist to provide essential snacks for guests throughout the day.

Every donation, big or small, shows our guests they matter. Let’s come together to provide care, compassion, and community for those who need it most.
